I first heard about “The Secret” sometime last year. From two of my friends who were going through very bad patches in their personal lives. One of them chose to believe in it, the other was skeptical about it. She felt that just believing in something, won’t change anything. One needs to do something concrete to overcome problems. Though I agreed with what she said, it turned out that miraculously, my friend, who chose to believe, her problems got solved. The issues, where we had so little hope of resolution, got completely resolved!

It seems very hard to believe (read: ridiculous) when you first hear about it, but somehow, I found myself believing in it. I don’t how, but it has seemed to work on many instances. I mainly like it because it encourages positive thinking. The idea is simple, if you want something badly enough, and transmit those thoughts correctly, the universe will get it to you.
Though it sounds extremely ridiculous, there are times in our life, when we need to believe life will be better, and things will work out at the end. We need something to give us hope. This is my thing – the thing that I cling to and rest my hopes on when I am down, or hurt, or just need some positivity.
Have you read it? What are your opinions about it?
If not this, what do you believe in, what gives you hope in the darkest hour?

FIRST!
I, as a principle, do not read this genre of books. I have very strong ‘anti-feelings’ for them, so I will totally refrain from commenting about the book per se.
About hope in the darkest hour, well, haven’t always had people who matter tell us that positive thoughts lead to positive results? I have not been able to really put that in action, but I have seen it work miracles for others.
What I do is complain, complain, complain, ignore, ignore, ignore and then complain some more. And, I think of all the good things I have, and always take for granted. Sometimes the issue goes away, sometimes it doesn’t.
But most of the time, I do feel a lot better!
Oh cribbing works .. makes me feel better a lot of times, especially when I have someone to tell me how life is being unfair.. and how I do not deserve it etc
I will just have to copy all of DI’s comment, but you get the drift
when we need to believe life will be better – I feel that when we start believing so, we also start working towards it. And that makes the difference!
Totally agree.. having that hope.. that things will be better, make a huge difference
This book definitely sounds interesting
The concept of the entire universe getting involved in helping you finda resolve springs from a concept I first read and heard in Paulo Coelho’s “The Alchemist”.
It can be said and written in various ways, and I personally feel no one source can work to help/guide us through the darkest hour, but anything that succeeds in arousing ‘FAITH’ in us does the trick.
So I personally feel, once the faith/ belief that ‘yes we can do it’ fills our hearts, everything is possible in this world.
Be your own light, seek inspiration in whatever you have faith in and positivity shall dawn in your life, may be slowly in the start, but will surely do eventually.
Since you’ve got me curious, I will now do some research about this book
8)
Yes, I read about it in “The Alchemist” too.. The faith/ belief is critical.. unless you have that.. its difficult to achieve what you wanna do!
There is a documentary on the book that I watched.. Haven’t read the actual book yet. You might find the documentary on you-tube.
i read tht book… wen i finished i was inspired to believe.. but after sunmtime i cmpletely frgot about it
But the book is really good
Hehe.. forgetting stuff happens a lot of times with me too
I did not take it much seriously at first.. but I got hooked after it worked for me a couple of times!
You mean they found ways through this book ?
)
That is interesting.
I am my own first support system. ( Narcissist I know
and then the loved ones and friends !
I come to believe that it is important to be positive generally about anything and everything. The positive outlook also comes by practice like many other things.
and now out of curiosity I want to read this one
No.. the book does not give solutions to the problems.. it merely asks you to think positively about the outcome, and your goal will be reached.. try it.. but don’t blame me if you find it a little over the top
Being positive is the way to go girl!
The title of the post is very true. A lot depends on our thinking and how we perceive ourselves . Encouraging and reassuring words from people we love and who care for us, I think, help a lot in difficult times.
Yes people around us play a very important role. But the most important is the hope within us, if its there, anything can be achieved!
I haven’t read the book, but I’ve heard a lot of positive things about it. I am going to get it one of these days.
My father always tells us that thoughts do have powers. Do your part, put your efforts and think positively and the results will be what you desire. I haven’t really observed if that’s true or not, but father strongly believes in it!
I agree with your fathers thoughts
The book doesn’t mention a lot about putting efforts in the direction, just mentions positive thoughts, but I personally feel efforts have to accompany the thoughts too.
I believe in faith. I hope. 100%. The reason is that, if I start working towards a solution for my problem, I will feel better only when the problem is solved.
But If I am positive that the problem will go away, I start feeling better already, and that gives me confidence to execute my solution better.
Its like, there is somebody with you who is telling you everything will be allright. Like at the end of the movie, we know everybody will go home happily
Couldn’t have said it better myself
Haven’t read that book! But, generally, in the darkest moments, the family is the BIGGEST support system. They’ll hail you out of everything! They are the ones who make you believe you can correct just about any wrong in life, and they won’t judge you for it!
You can always count on family
.. And after having some yummy Mommy made comfort food, the world seems like a better place already
I have seen the video, my ex-boss lent it to me. Of course I had to believe in what it said, to impress him
But seriusly, I do believe that you need to try with positivity, the universe will start favouring you
Hehe, of course
I agree
I was THIS close to buying that book when Mom suddenly asked me to hurry up for some urgent errands. I said to myself “later” and completely forgot about it.
Believing in yourself counts a lot!!!
I’ve watched this Documentary movie; It’s kinda unrealistic but good one.
